NZ Rugby North v South game in Wellington – with no fans

At least NZ Rugby has kept its sponsors and broadcaster Sky Sport happy as it prepares to play the North v South game in an empty stadium in Wellington on September 5.

In a pre-Covid world, or under alert level 1, NZ Rugby could have held the North v South game at a jammed Eden Park in Auckland and reaped ticket sales of about $1 million.

Now look where things are at: The much-hyped inter-island clash will be relocated to an empty Sky Stadium in the capital, having originally been scheduled to be played in Auckland on August 29.

Under alert level 2 no spectators can attend, meaning the two teams will have to perform in front of 34,500 empty seats with just the All Blacks coaches, camera crews and a handful of journalists for company.
